The Charlottesville Mural Project is supporting a new mural project at Johnson Elementary School. Parent volunteers Adrienne Dent and Doris Simpson have partnered with local mural artist Chicho Lorenzo. Together, they are meeting with students in every Johnson Elementary classroom, encouraging students to illustrate or write about their experience of the school community. Based on the students’ contributions, Chicho will interpret the mass brainstorm into a mural throughout the Johnson building. The finished product of this school-wide effort will illustrate and celebrate the students’ relationship to the school and the school’s relationship to the larger Charlottesville community. Chicho is a celebrated and enthusiastic artist who completed a mural at Venable Elementary two years ago. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of the project.
